Terrorist Attack Linked to Extremist Groups in Brasilia

The General Director of the Federal Police of Brazil, Andrei Rodrigues, linked the explosive attack on the headquarters of the Supreme Court in Brasilia to active extremist groups. According to Rodrigues, the incident was not an isolated event, and there is a possibility that it is connected to other ongoing investigations, including the invasion of the seats of the three powers on January 8, 2023.

The aggressor was identified as Francisco Wanderley Luiz, also known as Tiu França, a militant and former candidate for councilor from the Liberal Party. The individual, 59 years old and a locksmith by profession, had been in Brasilia for three or four months before the events. Luiz attempted to access the Supreme Court, and upon failing, launched explosive devices at the headquarters, taking his own life shortly thereafter.

During the explosives deactivation operation following the attack, more devices were found, including a belt with explosives and a fire extinguisher that resembled a flamethrower. Additionally, remotely activated fireworks were located in a nearby vehicle and explosive material was found in a trailer. At the aggressor's residence, homemade bombs were discovered, one of which exploded during the police inspection, causing no injuries.

In the house rented by Luiz in Ceilândia, messages written on the walls related to the events of January 8 were found. Although the attacker was in Brasilia during those days, it is still unknown whether he participated in the violent acts of that day. Investigators consider the attack to be premeditated and planned in advance, pointing to a possible terrorist action aimed at destabilizing the democratic rule of law.
