Lula Calls US Military Intervention in Venezuela a Humanitarian Catastrophe

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Saturday, during the opening of the Mercosur summit, that a US military intervention in Venezuela would be a 'humanitarian catastrophe.' Lula stated: 'After four decades of the war on drugs, the South American continent is once again threatened by the presence of a foreign military force.' This statement comes in the wake of US President Donald Trump's comments in an interview with NBC, in which he did not rule out the possibility of a war against Venezuela. Lula also added that 'a military intervention in Venezuela would be a humanitarian catastrophe for the entire hemisphere (the Southern one) and a dangerous precedent for the world.'
