Quilmes Mayor Demands Cristina Kirchner's Release in Brazil

The Vice President of Governance and Integration of Mercociudades, provincial deputy and mayor of Quilmes on leave, Mayra Mendoza, participated this Sunday in the "8M in the Streets" march in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, where she was one of the speakers and demanded the release of former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. Before thousands of protesters, Mendoza stated: "They are afraid of fearless women. That is why in Argentina we are experiencing the same thing that happened here in Brazil with Lula. We want Cristina, and we want her free. Cristina free! Thank you, my sisters, from the bottom of my heart," she affirmed. According to information from the Argentine News Agency, Mendoza began her agenda in Brazil last Thursday, when she participated in an event organized by the government of the city of Niteroi, the Mercociudades Network and the CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. During this activity, she sought to secure international financing to advance with works on the Social and Environmental Hydraulic Plan of the San Francisco-Las Piedras Arroyos Basin, a historical demand aimed at improving the lives of more than 100,000 neighbors in the western area of Quilmes. In addition, she held a bilateral meeting with the prefect (mayor) of Niteroi, Rodrigo Neves, and other local authorities, made a technical visit to educational spaces in that city, and met with women from the Workers' Party (PT) to exchange views on the agenda and regional context and to demand the release of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. Meanwhile, Mendoza, who holds the position of Vice President of Governance and Integration of Mercociudades, also participated in the organization's general meeting, where the Mercociudades communication campaign for human rights was promoted within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the Coup d'état in Argentina. In that same space, the "Cristina Libre" international campaign was also promoted, and the interest of Quilmes in actively participating in meetings and dialogue spaces with multilateral organizations and international development banks for the search for financing was expressed. "While Cristina is in prison, Milei is destroying Argentina." In this context, she emphasized that "proscription is part of the same plan" and added: "Stopping Milei is recovering democracy and we need Cristina free to recover the country from destruction." "To recover our country, I ask for your solidarity, sisters and comrades in struggle."
