FIFA has sanctioned the Brazilian Botafogo, where Panamanian Kadir Barría plays, with a three-transfer-window ban on signing players due to the case of Argentine Thiago Almada, who now plays for Atlético de Madrid. However, the Rio de Janeiro club has stated it is in negotiations with Atlanta United to resolve the issue. In a statement, Botafogo informs that "in recent weeks, it has held constructive talks with representatives of Atlanta United of the MLS to seek an agreement regarding the Thiago Almada case" after the American club claimed it had not received part of the amount agreed upon in the transfer. Botafogo hopes to resolve the matter before or at the start of the transfer window. "The club will be very active in the signing of players in January 2026," the Brazilian entity assures. Thiago Almada arrived at Botafogo from Atlanta United in 2024 and in January 2025 he was loaned to French Olympique Lyonnais. "The conversations were suspended due to the year-end break and will soon resume."
