Botafogo Hires New Head Coach

Botafogo, represented by Panamanian Kadir Barría, announced this Thursday the hiring of Portuguese Franclim Carvalho as the club's new head coach, with whom he has signed a contract until the end of 2027. The Portuguese coach replaces Argentine Martín Anselmi, who was fired two weeks ago and only three months after being hired, as the club did not see the 'evolution, progress, and results' expected. Having been an assistant to Portuguese coach Artur Jorge, who led Botafogo to win the Copa Libertadores for the first time and the Brazilian Championship after 30 years, Carvalho returns to the 'Glorioso' with the mission of leading as the head coach. After reaching the pinnacle of continental and Brazilian football, the Rio de Janeiro team was eliminated in the preliminary stage of the Libertadores, falling at home to Ecuadorian Barcelona. Furthermore, the team occupies the twelfth position in the Brazilian Championship. The new coach is expected in Rio this Friday and must officially debut next Thursday, when Botafogo hosts Caracas in their debut in the Copa Sudamericana.
