Eight rare engravings by the French artist Henri Matisse and five works by the Brazilian artist Candido Portinari were stolen from a library in São Paulo, according to the city's municipality. Local media reported that two armed men entered the Mario de Andrade library and stole the artworks. The stolen pieces were on display as part of the 'From the Book to the Museum' exhibition, a collaboration between the library and the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art. The location is equipped with a surveillance system and security cameras, and security presence in the area has been increased. Authorities have not disclosed any details about the stolen works by Matisse (1869-1954) and Portinari (1903-1962). In a statement published by the municipality about the exhibition, it was mentioned that works from the Museum of Modern Art's collection would be displayed, without specifying any of them. The five stolen engravings by Portinari were illustrations for the book 'Menino de Engenho', published in 1959.
