Mexico's President Invited for State Visit to Brazil

The President of Brazil invited his Mexican counterpart to make a State visit with the aim of strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries. In a telephone call, the importance of reinforcing forums such as CELAC in response to the crisis in Venezuela and other regional issues was discussed.

The proposal to strengthen CELAC arises in response to the need to face the uncertainty generated by the Trump administration, tensions within BRICS, and possible changes in the Brazilian political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections. Lula supported the strategy after speaking by phone with the Head of Government of Mexico City.

On social media, the former Brazilian president communicated his interest in discussing the bilateral and regional agenda with the Mexican president, emphasizing the importance of the State visit to boost the relationship between the two countries. Additionally, it was mentioned that the upcoming CELAC foreign ministers' summit will address issues of security and migration before the presidents' meeting in Colombia.

Among the changes that Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia are seeking is the publication of consensus documents in CELAC, considering that with certain political actors allied with Trump, such as Milei, it could be complicated to defend the interests of Latin America, as seen with the statement in favor of Panama which did not have Argentina's support.

The push towards CELAC as a key regional organization is framed within the strategy to strengthen the Latin American position against challenges such as deportations, the militarization of borders, and possible tariffs driven by the Trump administration. Claudia has Petro as an ally in this process, but the final confirmation came from Lula, thus strengthening regional cooperation on the American continent.
