The Brazilian Congress on Wednesday, after a stormy session, approved a bill that would significantly reduce the sentence of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempting a coup. The bill, aimed at 'calming the situation in Brazil,' was approved by 291 deputies to 148. The bill also stipulates the conditional release of more than a hundred supporters of the former far-right president, who were convicted for attacking government buildings. If the bill is approved by the Senate, 'Bolsonaro's sentence will be reduced from 27 years and three months to approximately two years and four months,' explained Deputy Paulinho da Forca. However, the final decision on the length of the sentences rests with the Supreme Court.
