Lula Criticizes Trump's Unilateralism

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticized the "unilateralism" of U.S. President Donald Trump, considering that he promotes an international policy based on the "law of the strongest." This was reported by the Argentine News Agency (NA).

During an event in the state of Minas Gerais, Lula stated that this approach seeks to impose decisions on other countries based on military power. "The unilateralism that President Trump seeks is one in which the strongest dictates what others must do," he asserted.

Brazil is seeking to mediate to preserve the Americas as a conflict-free zone. The Brazilian leader revealed that during a recent phone call with Trump, he emphasized the importance of preserving the Americas as a region free of conflicts, although his U.S. counterpart insisted on highlighting the military power of the United States.

The conversation took place within Brazil's efforts to act as a mediator amid rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela, as well as with other Latin American countries.

"We will try to use words as an instrument of persuasion to do things right. Diplomatically, words are the most powerful tool we have to solve problems," Lula stated, defending dialogue as the central path to de-escalating regional conflicts.
