The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil announced the arrival of a new flight with more repatriated Brazilian citizens from Louisiana, United States to Fortaleza, in the state of CearĂ¡. This new route will reduce the total travel time. Meetings between representatives of both governments regarding the return of Brazilian citizens from the United States have recently begun.
In a previous flight that arrived on January 24 with 88 deported Brazilians, the nationals arrived handcuffed at the arms and legs, which was considered "unacceptable" by the Brazilian Government, which now commits to ensuring a dignified and humane return of repatriated individuals in vulnerable conditions.
On the other hand, in a similar situation, 106 Peruvians arrived in Lima from the United States on a recent flight. This group joined others repatriated since the beginning of the new Administration in the U.S., totaling 140 returning compatriots. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru called upon various public institutions to provide medical, psychological, and social assistance to repatriated nationals.
This group of Peruvians from Louisiana arrived in Lima after coordination between the Peruvian Foreign Ministry and the U.S. Government to facilitate the return of citizens involved in immigration violations. The Ministry ensured a technical stop in Puerto Rico and then a transfer to Fortaleza, where the Brazilian Air Force will provide a plane to take the repatriated individuals to Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, where they will receive assistance and various services.
The Ministry of Human Rights of Brazil established a Reception Center for Repatriated Individuals in Belo Horizonte to ensure they have access to the internet, charging for mobile phones, and communication channels with their families, as well as guidance on public services. The flight will be monitored in real time by the working group to organize subsequent flights and ensure a safe and dignified return for Brazilian citizens.
Finally, the importance given by the Brazilian Government to the promotion and protection of the fundamental rights of its citizens is emphasized, with special attention to those in highly vulnerable situations, highlighting the dignity of the human persona as a non-negotiable principle of the Democratic Rule of Law, as expressed in the official statement.
