BYD Shenzhen Sets Sail with 7,000 Electric Cars

An authentic marine leviathan and the largest vehicle transport ship ever built, the "BYD Shenzhen," is on a voyage across the oceans heading to Brazil. It departed from the port of Taicang on the eastern coast of China, carrying 7,000 electric cars on board. The journey to the shipment's destination is estimated to take about 30 days, with Brazil being a key market for the Chinese brand.

In 2024, BYD sold 76,700 vehicles in Brazil, showing a growth of 328%. This type of vessel not only strengthens international distribution but also marks a new way of doing business, being direct, sustainable, and with its own infrastructure, which helps reduce costs. In the first quarter of 2025, BYD's ships have already transported more than 25,000 electric vehicles abroad, thereby consolidating their presence in over 400 cities across more than 100 countries.

The "BYD Shenzhen" is the fourth ship developed by BYD for the maritime transport of its electric cars, built by China Merchants Group and designed by local engineers. With 9,200 standard spaces, the vessel is equipped with high-efficiency engines, special condensers, and a naval coating that reduces hull resistance, making it a technological giant in the global automotive industry.

At the ship's inauguration ceremony, BYD manager Wang Junbao mentioned that the "BYD Shenzhen" is more than just a simple vehicle transporter; it is a floating bridge that connects Chinese innovation with global markets. This commitment to having its own maritime transport fleets is not only a show of industrial strength but also a strategic decision to reduce costs, ensure timely deliveries, and maintain total logistical control. Additionally, it aims to reduce the carbon footprint in goods transportation. China, as the world's leader in car exports, continues to set trends in the global automotive industry.
