Social media giant TikTok has selected Brazil as the site for its first data center in Latin America. The project, announced by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is considered a key driver for the country's technological development.
The massive investment amounts to approximately 200 billion reais (around 37.38 billion dollars) over the coming years and will be established at the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém, in the northeastern state of Ceará.
During the announcement in Fortaleza, President Lula da Silva emphasized that the initiative will consolidate Brazil's digital infrastructure and has the potential to attract other similar projects to the region.
"This 'data center' will be something extraordinary for the technological development of this country," stated the head of state, according to the Argentine News Agency.
Meanwhile, Mônica Guise, Director of Public Policy for TikTok Brazil, highlighted the historical nature of this investment, which underscores the dynamism of the Brazilian digital market.
Sustainability and High Technology
A central aspect of the project is its commitment to sustainability. The data center will operate exclusively on 100% clean energy from new wind farms, which not only guarantees an eco-friendly operation but also expands the region's renewable energy capacity.
Furthermore, the complex will use cutting-edge technology with a closed-loop water reuse system, ensuring high energy efficiency and low water consumption.
Guise concluded by assuring that the project's execution will be carried out with "deep respect and dialogue with local communities".
