Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated on Thursday that the main issue in Venezuela is to strengthen democracy and improve living conditions for its population, and that the absence of ousted Nicolás Maduro, captured by the United States, 'should not be the main concern' at this time. 'That (Maduro's return to the country) is not the main concern,' the Brazilian leader argued. He emphasized to his US counterpart that it is up to the Venezuelan people to determine the course of their country. 'I told President Trump: those who will solve Venezuela's problems are the Venezuelans themselves. Because Latin America cannot continue to be the poorest region in the world,' Lula said. He commented on a conversation he had with Trump in January, in which Venezuela was also discussed. 'They have to take responsibility,' he affirmed.
