He revealed the news through a social media post, stating that his "story as a player ends here." Marcelo had been without a club since the end of last year, when he left Fluminense due to an internal conflict with the coach.

Although there were rumors about his possible signing with other teams, the former left back decided to end a successful career that includes more than 650 matches played and 30 titles to his name. He particularly highlighted his 16 seasons, 25 titles, and five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, where he became a legend.
