
A person died and a dozen were injured in an ambush carried out by supporters of the Palmeiras football club against fans of the Cruzeiro team on a highway in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The city's Security Secretariat confirmed the incident.
The ambush took place in Mairiporã in the early hours of Sunday, when Palmeiras supporters attacked buses transporting Cruzeiro fans to Belo Horizonte. That same night, Cruzeiro played a match against Atlético Paranaense in the state of Paraná.
According to authorities, Cruzeiro fans were ambushed by organized Palmeiras supporters, who used pieces of wood and fire to assault the rival team's fans. One of the injured, identified as 30-year-old José Miranda, died in the attack.
It is reported that at least two buses were set on fire by the attackers during the confrontation. Both Palmeiras and Cruzeiro condemned the acts of violence. The police are investigating the incident and no further details have been released.
