Researchers have discovered a fossil of a carnivorous lizard, which they named 'The Warrior'. Its existence is evidence of the ancient geographical connection between Brazil and Africa about 240 million years ago. In a study published yesterday, the researchers revealed that this armored reptile resembles dinosaurs but is an ancestor of modern crocodiles. The reptile was named Tainerasuchus peltatus, which is derived from Latin and means 'Warrior' or 'Fighter'. Its length was estimated at about 2.4 meters and its weight at 60 kilograms. Lead researcher Rodrigo Timm Müller stated that this animal was an active predator. Müller said that the researchers discovered part of its skeleton, parts of the lower jaw, spine, and pelvic girdle. Müller added: 'This discovery helps to shed light on a pivotal moment in the history of life.' Müller described the discovery as 'extremely rare', noting that this species was previously unknown to science.
