In his speech, he advocated for the creation of alternative payment methods for transactions among member countries, without depending on the dollar.
Lula expressed the importance of moving in this direction to reflect the multipolar order they aspire to. He emphasized that this is not about replacing local currencies, but about strengthening diversity in the international financial system. The former president also highlighted the relevance of the BRICS group in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement regarding climate change.
In his statements, Lula expressed opposition to climate change and support for taxing the 'super-rich,' as well as promoting equality in access to vaccines and artificial intelligence. He underscored the need to fight hunger and advocated for peace in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Lula da Silva conveyed his support for democratizing access to technology and called for imposing taxes on large fortunes. He also offered Brazil's position at the G20, where the country will hold the rotating presidency in 2025. The Brazilian leader also urged adherence to the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative launched by the G20.
Finally, regarding the situation in the Middle East, Lula criticized the Israeli military offensive and advocated for the initiation of peace negotiations. He referred to the Gaza Strip as the 'largest cemetery of children and women in the world,' highlighting the urgency of seeking peaceful solutions in the region.
